Top 5 Reasons to Join Atlas Obscura’s Ecliptic Festival
-
THE ECLIPSE! This major astronomical event won’t be visible again in the US for 20 years and you’ll want to make sure you’re on the Path of Totality. Atlas Obscura’s Ecliptic Festival is in a beautiful park next to Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, giving you the best possible chance of clear skies and 100% visibility.
-
UNPARALLELED PERFORMANCES AND SPEAKERS. What better way to celebrate this celestial spectacle than to the sounds of Sun Ra Arkestra playing in the Big Moment. You’ll have your choice of intimate performances by Angel Olsen, Blonde Redhead, Deerhoof, Shannon and the Clams, Allah-las, and many others. Speakers include mythologist and storyteller John Bucher, theoretical physicist Dr. Kelly Reidy, and science journalist Rebecca Boyle. Hear from MythBusters co-host and YouTube personality Adam Savage, and enjoy comedy and music by Fred Armisen.
-
THE LOCATION. You’ll have plenty of places to find solitude or fellowship in Cedar Glades Park’s 15+ miles of forests, fields and hills, plus immediate proximity to the national park. Next door is the very cool town of Hot Springs with victorian-era hot springs baths, quaint shops, delicious restaurants and coffee shops and some of the most amazing gems and gemology in the US.
-
THE TRAVEL AND LODGING OPTIONS. You’ll have a lot to choose from if you move quickly. On the grounds of the festival we have a beautiful glamping village with tents and luxe linens provided by Shelter Co., or you can reserve a bring-your-own-tent camping spot. Hot Springs hotels look like they’re filling up online but there is availability if you call (yes, on the phone! Old school.) And within easy daily commuting distance there are a ton of hotels in and around Little Rock and the surrounding communities.
-
GETTING HERE IS EASIER THAN YOU THINK. Flights from major cities to Little Rock are filling up fast, but there are many options from Memphis and Fayetteville airports. Hot Springs is a wonderfully entertaining drive from New Orleans, Nashville, St. Louis, Tulsa and other day-trippable cities. There are also buses and rental cars available.
The BEST reason to join the Atlas Obscura family for this event is to mark this rare occasion in a truly spectacular location.
