🧠The Fresh Start EffectNew beginnings encourage people to pursue their goals Long Definition According to the fresh-start effect, people are more likely to take action towards a goal after temporal marks that represent new beginnings. This can be a new week, month, year, national holidays, anniversaries, and birthdays. You can leverage this tendency to persuade users to buy your products and services. ResearchEvery new year, the words “Weight Loss” spikes in searches on Google. Even in 2020 when most gyms were closed due to Covid-19, there was a spike up 24% before dropping to regular levels. In 2018, there was a 28% increase, showing that there's a pattern every year providing evidence that the Fresh Start Effect is Real. Different research showed that people are more likely to exercise:
- after a birthday - 7%
- start of a week - 33%
- start of a month - 11%
- start of a semester - 47%

🥊Possible Application New Year, New you Whether it's a cliche or not, people want to change at the beginning of every year. This is the best session for gyms, gym supplements, activity clubs, etc. Temporal landmarksIf you want to really stand out, identify temporal landmarks that are unique to your niche that you can use to segment, and inspire your audience. Example:Allstate’s content marketing strategy is a great example of this. They have a whole section of blog posts and resources related to life’s big milestones: buying a home, getting married, expecting a baby, an empty nest. Remind your customers of their goals during temporal landmarks In an experiment, people preferred to be reminded of their goals during the days known to them as temporal landmarks:
- 354% more people preferred to receive their reminder on "The first day of spring" than on "the third Thursday in March", even though it was the same day
- 657% more people preferred to receive their reminder on "The first day of summer break" than simply "May 14th"
